2017 Portland Terrain Race

The Portland Terrain Race was my first experience with the Terrain Race and I was super excited to finally be able to do a race with unlimited laps! I signed up for the competitive 10k, for the early start time to maximize the time on course.

The welcome to terrain race starting bath was an interesting way to start the race. Waist high water before you even start was pretty funny. Continue reading 2017 Portland Terrain Race

2017 Seattle Super Spartan

What can I say about the Seattle Super Spartan Race other than it was brutal. There were a few new obstacles, which are always fun to try Twister and double sandbag carry and old favorites (not really) The Rig, spear throw, rope climb, bucket brigade, Olympus and so on.

This course was an assault on my upper body, which was compounded by myself neglecting my upper body for around 6 months and I was punished.

Hood to Coast 2016

This was my first year running the Hood to Coast relay race and it will be an experience that I will never forget, for a few reasons.

This was my first relay race so this was a race that was completely new format for me. I was able to get on a team thanks to a post I saw in the Timbers Army Running Club group on Facebook. I didn’t have a race that weekend on my schedule, so I jumped on the chance to be able to check this race off my todo list. During the planning stages of the race for the team, we were asked to look at the legs and figure out which one we wanted to run. Since I run mostly OCR’s now, I didn’t really care which leg I ran, so I simply told the group, “I don’t care which leg I run, so I will take whichever leg is the leftover.” Continue reading Hood to Coast 2016

The Freeze

I know the creators of The Freeze were hoping for terrible (i.e. freezing) weather and the day started out that was at 32 degrees F, which IS freezing. Unfortunately, by the time I had finished the race, the temperature was in the upper sixties. Not exactly what The Freeze organizers were looking for. Fortunately for them, weather was out of their control, but the race was not.

For the inaugural The Freeze, the competitive heats started at 9 with the open heats starting at 10. I arrived around 9:50 and there were a number of people who were ready to start the race. I will still getting on my gear when the load speakers stated that the next wave of people would be leaving in 5 minutes. I still have to warm up and stretch, so I knew I was not going in this next wave. By the time I was ready to go, the first finishers of the competitive wave were starting to cross the finish line. The top finishers completed the race at a little over 55 minutes. I know I’m not fast, so I gave myself an hour and a half to finish the course. Continue reading The Freeze

Registered for two more races today

What’s the one thing you can count on from a race? A finish line? Bananas? Well, yes, but also flyers for other upcoming races! I found out about the Fire Dash and Zombie Fest. The Fire Dash is a unique obstacle course that is designed to simulate fire fighting situations that benefits the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation. Double bonus if you ask me.  Then the Zombie Fest, another race that you have to outrun zombies. The Races page has been updated!
