2015 PNW Spartan Sprint

The 2015 Pacific Northwest Spartan Sprint had a few firsts for me. I ran as part of an impromptu team with two other Hurricane Heat members from the previous night, so penalties could be shared. I failed the Hercules Hoist for the first time ever as the gloves I wore got more slippery when wet and the fire jump was without fire.

Since the Hurricane Heat group failed to memorize “Walking on Sunshine”, I had it playing on repeat for the entire sprint as punishment/entertainment.

The race, once again was in Washougal, WA at the Washougal MX Park. The course mad quite a few changes over last year and the race was a blast. Yes, it was hard, as this is a Spartan Race.

2015 Trifecta is 2/3 complete.

Goals Update for February

My goals for 2015 are as follows:

Run 1,000 miles (almost double the previous year 576)
– 114 of 134 miles completed as of today. I’m behind, but I can make it up

Stay in the Spartan Trifecta Tribe
– 2015 Beast Completed
– 2015 Super scheduled August 8th
– 2015 Sprint scheduled October 17th

Complete a Spartan Hurricane Heat
– Scheduled August 7th

Take an average of 12k steps a day for all of 2015. If I fail, I donate $2,000 to Paws and Stripes, if I succeed donate $1,200.
– as of now, I’m way behind, but all is not lost.

Month Average Steps Per Day Total Steps Goal Percent
January 9,245 286,604 372,000 77%
February 7,936 134,916 204,000 66%
Total 8,781 421,520 576,000 73%

2014 Pacific Northwest Spartan Sprint

What can I say about the Spartan Sprint? Just that it’s the toughest 5k+ obstacle course race that I have ever done that is under 7 miles. I will be able to compare the Spartan Races to the Tough Mudder in a few days time.

The first obstacle to the Spartan Sprint was the line to the parking lot. I had left 20 minutes earlier than I planned on and I was glad I did, but eventually would not have mattered. There was a line of cars over a mile long before entering the parking lot. It gave me a little time to relax and let the nervousness settle a bit. Once I got my parking pass and parking spot all situated, I made my way to the waiver area. What I didn’t know was, there were two waivers, the standard white waiver for the Spartan Race and a green waiver for NBC to film you. Needless to day, I had to wait in the packet pickup line twice. Thanks green waiver. Continue reading 2014 Pacific Northwest Spartan Sprint

2012 Spartan Sprint Race

I didn’t know any better, so I had a Yoda backpack that had a waterproof speaker that had Yoda talking every minute or so. Why was this a bad choice? The first mud pit, Yoda became a 40 lbs deadweight. Through the 100+ yard uphill army crawl under barbed wire, Yoda had many stitches break.

GoPro wrist shots from the Spartan Race 2012 in Washougal MX Park. I accidentally turned off the GoPro 40 minutes into my 2.5 hour race. Here are the highlights… Continue reading 2012 Spartan Sprint Race
