Couch to 5k: Life and getting back on track

Life events, both personal and professional have kept me away from training and racing. As of last week, that has changed because in stead of waiting for the “perfect time” to train I made time. With the help of my wife I was able to make time. Yay! I started to run again with a Couch to 5k training plan.

Last week I chose an intermediate Couch to 5k training plan from Garmin using heart rate zones. Tuesday through Sunday I ran or rucked each day. So I had my first full week of activity since my son was born, almost 2 and a half years ago. Running tonight felt really good. I stayed in heart rate zone 2 for the entire run, 30 minutes. The only time I was out of the heart rate zone range was the starting ramp up and 2 seconds of being in zone 3 near the end.

Back to Zombies, Run!

Zombies, Run! Season 6 Episode 25 - part of my Couch to 5k run

It was also nice to fire up Zombies, Run! again and hear Sam Yao in my ears. I never finished Season 6, just a little bit over half way. I can’t wait to see what happens. You may be wondering, why not use the Zombies, Run! Couch to 5k app? The answer is simple, because I’ve already completed it. Most importantly I wanted a little more advanced Couch to 5k plan, which is why I went the Garmin route.

Even though was was not moving fast, I believe I got the runners high. As a result, the music I was listening to sounded better, my mood improved, I felt great!

As a result, I hope to set a 10k PR this year, which I set a little over 2 years ago. I believe this is doable as long as I stay focused. With determination and a goal, I will do my best to make it happen.
