2014 Pacific Northwest Spartan Sprint

What can I say about the Spartan Sprint? Just that it’s the toughest 5k+ obstacle course race that I have ever done that is under 7 miles. I will be able to compare the Spartan Races to the Tough Mudder in a few days time.

The first obstacle to the Spartan Sprint was the line to the parking lot. I had left 20 minutes earlier than I planned on and I was glad I did, but eventually would not have mattered. There was a line of cars over a mile long before entering the parking lot. It gave me a little time to relax and let the nervousness settle a bit. Once I got my parking pass and parking spot all situated, I made my way to the waiver area. What I didn’t know was, there were two waivers, the standard white waiver for the Spartan Race and a green waiver for NBC to film you. Needless to day, I had to wait in the packet pickup line twice. Thanks green waiver. Continue reading 2014 Pacific Northwest Spartan Sprint

It’s not going to be a 5k…

OOOoooh the 2014 Pacific Northwest Spartan Sprint isn’t going to be 5k, it’s almost 5 miles! YES!

“Terrain: The course will be 4.75 miles with a few short, steep climbs. Plan on running most of the race on single-track with some motocross track running mixed in. Racers will explore new terrain, including a section the local dirt bikers call Disneyland.”

Seattle Super Spartan is not to be this year..

I received an email from the Spartan Race a few minutes ago that states:

Thank you for pre-registering for the Seattle Spartan Super. It’s been decided not to hold this race in 2014, however, there are still plenty of other Spartan Races taking place across the country this year allowing you to #SpartanUp! Check out another Spartan Race coming to Washington below, including an exclusive discount offer.

The other race the email talks about is the Sprint, which I have already registered to race. Guess I gotta head East to get my Trifecta for 2014.

The Trials and Trails of the Monterey Spartan Beast 2014

This is the race I have been waiting for and dreading. 11+ miles of wicked Monterey hills and 25+ obstacles that would push me to my limits and beyond. A few days before the race, I started to get the nervous feeling in my gut. The longest I have ever run at one time was 10 miles and that was only 7 days before the Beast. I knew that I would be able to do the running/jogging part as its not straight 11+ miles thanks to the obstacles. I packed all of my obstacle race gear and a few changes of clothing and readied myself for a trip to sunny California. Two hours of flying and a hour and a half car ride later we arrived at the hotel that was 15 or so minutes away form the race.

The night before the race, my sleep was not very good. I woke up multiple times due to noise and possibly nerves. We found out when we were leaving that the water heating system was recently tuned and we were lucky to hear swishing noises all night in a pattern. Yay.
