Endurance Events and Fear

Truth be told, endurance events – a GORUCK, Spartan’s Hurricane Heat and the like – are 100% out of my comfort zone. I am intimidated by them. I’ve successfully completed two Spartan Hurricane Heats and was medically dropped from a GORUCK Tough, a 12ish hour event, somewhere between the 6-8th hour. In each event at some point I told myself that I’m never doing another one of these events again. I was out of my comfort zone. The medical drop really did a number on my confidence, not because of the medical DNF part, but that my physical fitness was not up to snuff.

2017 Portland Terrain Race

The Portland Terrain Race was my first experience with the Terrain Race and I was super excited to finally be able to do a race with unlimited laps! I signed up for the competitive 10k, for the early start time to maximize the time on course.

10k PR!

I missed my opportunity to do my long run on Sunday, I I used my Tuesday easy run time as a make up for the Sunday long run. I am glad I did.

I started Charity Miles, got my Garmin searching for devices and queued up my podcast app up with two Spartan podcasts, Spartan Underground and Spartan Up while I made my way to the starting spot of my run.
